Babies can be saved!!
This may be a bit long but please read it
to the end. This is a web posting by a Mom who trusted her maternal instincts that something wasn't right with her
pregnancy. Connie, a Star Legacy Foundation Board Member replied and urged her to seek another opinion. Long story
short..... she did and has a healthy baby that no doubt would have been another tragedy. Kudo's to Connie!
Please keep an eye on the Star Legacy Foundation web page - we're under going a renovation AND we'll soon be unveiling
our new awareness and advocacy campaign. We'll need your help to spread the word!! Know your baby, count your
baby's movements, ask for an ultrasound around 28 weeks to identify potential placental and/or cord issues that may require
further monitoring and trust your instincts. Blessings, Shauna
Andrews Mel Hi Ladies, I'm really sorry for your lost little angels. I do have something to add however. It isn't just midwives
that need the education, but the obs as wel. For the last week i have been having contractions due to an irritable uterus
and today i went to see my ob. I told her that on sunday it took me 6hrs to get my baby to move (cold drinks, hot water bottles,
sugary drinks and foods). When baby finally moved, it's movements have been weaker than normal. My ob says it is ok, the
heartbeat is ok today and not to worry about the kickchart because baby isn't moving enough. I'm stressing out. This
pregnancy started as multiples, we only have 1 left. We are 31wks yesterday.
She doesn't want to see me for
another 2wks now, when she said she "supposes we should do an ultrasound to find out what is going on.
I just
don't know what to do anymore, i cannot take anymore heartbreak.
I think this campaign is great and i hope
the medical professionals get the message.
Cheers Mel. oxFebruary 9 at 10:41pm

Chloe's "Count the Kicks" Campaign Mel... get a second opinion! Demand it in A&E if you have to... sometime these individuals have different ideas, call
the NHS Direct if you want to or call a different hospital. Just ask their opinion. But just to be safe. I just beleive
these doctors don't respect how strong a Mothers Intuition is... if your baby was in your arms and not moving much, his
or her pulse may well be strong - but there still would be a questionmark over why it's not moving - there is no difference.
I think this campaign should give Mums the confidence to put their foot daown and be Ascertive... demand a second opinion
you are entitled, if they argue tell them it states it in the "Patients Charter" I promise you this WILL make them
listen to you!
We have rights as patients and very little is known about this until it's too late.
I don't want to turn this campaign into an attack on the NHS but I do think sometimes it is very easy for us to be ignored.
If you're worried then SHOUT!!!
Good luck hon. xxFebruary 11

Connie Hosker Hi Ladies, My first granddaughter, Robert Rae, was born still at 36.3 weeks. My daughter in law had all the signs of
a baby in distress on various occasions but was always told she was fine. If you feel your baby has slowed down - or - speeded
up from the baby's normal pattern, call your midwife or doc and get checked. Do your kick counts religiously!!!
A 28 week scan is a wonderful thing and have your professionals look for the cord - and tell you where it is. Roberta Rae
had torsion of the cord - which could have been monitored - if they had scanned her at 28 weeks and followed her along.
I am now supporting The Star Legacy Foundation which is devoted to Stillbirth Education and Research. Please check
out the work of Dr. Jason Collins of The Pregnancy Institute in New Roads, Louisiana - just outside of Baton Rouge - who has
devoted his career to umbilical cord accidents which account for 30% of the 25,000 + stillbirths in the USA.
My
daughter in law is now 20 weeks pregnant and she will be seeing Dr. Collins @ 28 weeks for a scan to check the umbilical cord
and placenta location. She will then to be monitored from where she lives in South Carolina every evening by Dr. Collins.
If the baby's movements speed up or slow down she will go to her own doc in SC to be checked.
Listen to your
"GUT" instincts. Big Love Hugs & Blessings, ConnieFebruary 17 at

Emma Robinson I found it harder with a toddler to count the kicks on my 2nd pregnancy, but I was still aware of movements etc, to the point
that just like with my first daughter I was in and out of hospital apologising for wasting their time because as soon as I
was hooked up to the monitor she would kick. I am glad I went when I did with my 2nd daughter though as even though overdue
like my first, they wanted to induce me earlier that the protocol due to reduced movement and they weren't happy with
the trace. I wasn't happy to be induced as I had a lovely quick first birth, but knew it was the best thing for my baby.
Any way while in hospital and waiting 12 hours for a bed to be induced, I went into spontaneous labour, it was very very quick
so we dont know if that put baby in shock or if the fact her movements/trace weren't very good, but she was born flat,
took her out to be resusistated then she had an agpar of 3 and eventually upto 9, so I am glad I went to the hospital when
I did or things could have been different.
So please go and get checked out if you aren't happy, I apologised
on both pregnancies to the midwives and they aid thats what they are there for xxYesterday

Andrea Wilkinson This campaign is wonderful. We lost our second child, Elijah, umbilical cord accident in the 32nd week. We experienced a
great spurt of activity followed by much reduced movement, then he was gone. The activity was so strong it made us laugh,
had no idea it was a distress call and he was already in trouble :-( That was January 09. I am now 32 weeks pregnant and find
huge ignorance in the nhs, at all levels..............even my consultant makes comments like he has never seen an uca death
more than once in one woman..........I do not want to be the first!!
Love to all, such a loss we need to raise
awareness AndreaYesterday at 9:39am · Report
Andrews Mel Hi all, Well my daughter is now 1 mth old and due date yesterday. Thankfully she arrived safely (well after sometime in the
special care unit and paed concerns.) Thank you Connie for your support, you gave me the courage to speak up and get some
answers (after a very erratic CTG) the ob decided to schedule a caesarian and steroid shots. I am so glad you started this
campaign and sorry that you had reason to have to. I have told all my friends and midwives and my ob about you. I am hoping
some of them listen.
Take Care of yourself and I am so sorry to all the wonderful mummies who have lost their sweet
little people.

Andrews Mel Hi AGAIN FORGOT TO ADD. DURING MY LAST CTG, THE MIDWIFE SAID I WASN'T EXPERIENCING ENOUGH PAIN FOR THE READING ON
THE CTG, SO SHE TURNED IT DOWN. PLEASE BE AWARE OF THIS TOO. IT COULD HAVE COST ME MY LITTLE PRINCESS, IF I HADN'T PERSISTED
AND PURSUED THE MATTER. HUGS TO ALL.OX

And, of course, the 5th Annual golf benefit planning is well underway.
This year it will be held on Saturday, July 31, 2010 at Thorncreek Golf Course in Thornton, Colorado. We already know
of folks coming from far and wide so it will no doubt be another great success.

Church in Longmont, Coloado. Dr. Jason Collins of the Pregnancy Institute will be the gues speaker for the evening.
Tickets to the dinner and golf benefit will be available shortly on the website.
And finaly - did you know.......
Every day in the United States nearly 100 infants are stillborn - most causes are undetermined. The Star Legacy
Foundation for Stillbirth Research & Education considers this unacceptable. Together we can make a difference!

4th Annual Golf Benefit is a Huge Success!
The 4th Annual Golfing For Garrett benefit was again a huge success! We had a
record number of golfers this year. Next year our goal is to fill the golf tournament completely! To
date we have now contributed $26,000 to support the research of Dr. Jason Collins and the National Institute for Stillbirth
Research.
We are presently investigating other ways our non-golfing friends and supporters can help support stillbirth
research and education. Stay tuned for details as plans are finalized. We welcome your suggestions!

Dr. Jason Collins to attend 4th Annual Golfing for Garrett Tournament
We are extremely honored to learn from Jason
Collins, MD that he will attend the 4th Annual Golfing for Garrett Charity golf tournament.
Dr. Jason H. Collins, founder of The
Pregnancy Institute, is the preeminent expert in the world on umbilical cord accidents. Based on his research he believes
simple cord compressions account for a large portion of stillbirths said to be due to "indeterminable reasons".
Without the benefit of government grants
or public funding, Dr. Collins, a practicing OB/GYN in New Roads, Louisiana, has spent his career studying the role played
by umbilical cords in stillbirths. He has traveled, lectured, admonished and cajoled other members of the medical community,
challenging them to put his research to the test.
